Music For Idiots

Finally Makmed the Miller has woken up in the modern world and accepts that people don’t really buy CDs anymore. So it is now possible to access his music on Bandcamp.

Three new albums featuring Makmed and some guests, they also include previously unreleased material.

The album ‘Music For Idiots’ contains the instrumental piece of the same name, which is one of the most popular musical performances in Makmed’s entire canon. It is an improvised piece on Kamenche and itself is based on another improvisation on harmonium by Gurdjieff. Avid followers of Gurdjieff will know who the idiots are.

‘Taxi for Maxi’ features the Shuafa Sisters, very close companions of Makmed. They play saz, musical saw and circuit bent DJ mixer.

‘Black September’ is an instrumental piece which was part of the soundtrack Makmed composed for the film ‘From Balfour to Banksy’

There are ten tracks in all on this album. Eight of them are previously unreleased on vinyl, CD or online.

The second album is called ‘But Is It Wabi Sabi?’ You will have to decide that for yourself. You will find some old favourites, like Milu Ling bashing the hell out of a piano harp on ‘The Bicycle Lesson’, but also very new pieces ‘Indo Persian Bleep’ or the sonic electric guitar assault of ‘Small Crow’. Plenty of phono fiddle on this album. Ten tracks in total. Eight previously unreleased.

Last and not least is ‘The Sea Dogs Serenade the Moon’. This is mostly a collection of songs. It is almost listener friendly. A new recording of an old Forgotten Fish Memory number ‘Yoyasa’, the sad spoken tale which is ‘My Baby Went to Okinawa’, the gorgeous and well loved Portuguese fado ‘Pela Morte Desta Vida’ sung by OneShot Albuquerque and the very recent recording ‘The Day I Lost My Memory’.

All this and more.
